Mac qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1979 and spent two years with an auditing firm in London. On his return to South Africa, he spent two years as financial manager at a listed company. Mac has been in public audit practice since 1983 at Saboor Gani & Co. He was a founding partner of MSGM Masuku Jeena Inc, which until its merger with PricewaterhouseCoopers was amongst the biggest black auditing practices in South Africa. During this time Mac gained extensive experience in private company services and public sector audits. He was a partner in the Gauteng Assurance Practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers and he was also the firm's Southern African Higher Education leader. He has extensive experience in the Higher Education Industry, Private Sector and the Local Government Sectors. Mac was a member of the Governing Board at PwC. He was the Chairman of the Partner Compensation Committee and the Chairman of the Executive Remuneration Sub – Committee. He was also a member of the Finance Sub-Committee of the Southern African Practice. Mac is the Partner–in–Charge of the PwC Pretoria Office and a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA). He has been appointed Non-Executive Director at the South African National Blood Service from 19 November 2014.
