Research Ethics

WHC provides valuable support to the University of the Witwatersrand’s Human Research Ethics Committee (Wits HREC). This Committee, which meets monthly to review research applications, was one of the first Ethics Committees to be established in the world. The Wits HREC operates according to the latest ICH GCP and South African Medical Research Council guidelines. It also works in line with guidelines for Good Practice in the Conduct of Clinical Trials in Human Participants in South Africa.and Ethics in Health Research: Principles, Processes and Structures, Department of Health 2015

In addition to maintaining up-to-date documents, policies, guidelines and check-lists, the WHC Regulatory Secretariat Division processes clinical trial submissions, provides annual re-certification and approvals for amendments to existing trial documentation.
